the scan itself

You will be asked to lie on a couch and will be put in the scanner by the radiographer, head first or feet first dependant on the body part examined. Once you are positioned and comfortable, all you need to do is relax and keep very still.

A loud rhythmic knocking noise will be heard whilst the scan takes place so you will be asked to wear ear phones or ear plugs. You may like to bring your favourite CD, which we can play during the scan.

The radiographer can see you throughout the scan and you can communicate with each other at any time.

There are lots of types of MRI scan and they take from 15 to 60 minutes. Although every attempt is made to scan patients on time, delays may occur due to unforeseen circumstances. We pride ourselves in treating each patient as an individual.
