history of PET
In PET scanning we wish to increase the resolution and the sensitivity and here are some ways this has been attempted historically.
During the 50s 2D images were obtained by moving opposed Sodium Iodide crystal detectors.
During the 60s and 70s this developed to rings of detectors surrounding the patient, ie tomography.
During the 80s and 90s this moved to improved attenuation correction and image reconstruction with newer detectors.
During the 2000s this has developed further with more slices in CT, time of flight, list mode acquisition, gating etc
